BATTLE OF MURAISI OR BANI MUSTALIQ:-
The
Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was informed that
Harith bin Zarrar, the chief of Banu Mustaliq, had gathered a large force to
attack Madinah, and sent him to investigate. They returned and confirmed this
news, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) left with an
army of companions on 2 Sha’ban 5 AH and after a day’s journey, he encamped
near the place of Muraisi. The men of Muraisi came to the contest and after a
little battle their feet were torn off and they fled from the field. Ten men of
Banu Mustaliq were killed in this battle, while one companion was also martyred.
The Muslims captured 600 men of the polytheists, 2,000 camels, and 5,000 goats
were among the spoils. Among those who were captured in this battle was
Jawaria, the daughter of the chief of Banu Mustaliq. She decided the amount of her
ransom and asked the Holy Prophet for help. The Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him) freed her from slavery by paying the ransom money on his
behalf, and he also gave her the favor of marrying her after accepting Islam. With
the blessing of this marriage, all the prisoners of war and booty of Banu
Mustaliq were returned and her father Harith bin Zarrar, the chief of Banu
Mustaliq, also accepted Islam.
