HAZRAT YUNUS (PEACE BE UPON HIM): -

Hazrat Yunus (peace be upon him) is one of the chosen prophets and prophets of Bani Israel. He was born in the famous city of Iraq “Nineveh”. Allah Almighty made him a prophet to guide this city, this nation had fallen into disbelief and polytheism. You continued inviting them to worship one Allah for a long time, but they did not accept your invitation and persisted in disbelief and polytheism and ridiculed you. When this usually started to happen, Hazrat Yunus (peace be upon him) prayed for divine punishment and departed from there. After your departure from the settlement, signs of divine punishment began to appear on the nation. The nation became convinced that Hazrat Yunus (peace be upon him) was a true prophet of Allah. Therefore, all the people of the nation and their chiefs gathered in a field outside the settlement and wept bitterly and asked for forgiveness for their sins and repented from polytheism. Allah accepted their repentance and saved them from punishment.

HAZRAT YUNUS (PEACE BE UPON HIM) IN THE BELLY OF A FISH: -

Hazrat Yunus (peace be upon him) got angry with his people and left the town and reached the bank of Euphrates river and boarded a boat. On the way, the boat was hit by stormy waves and there were signs of the boat sinking, so the boatmen decided to throw a person into the river according to their belief. A lot was drawn for this, then the name of Hazrat Yunus (peace be upon him) came out. In this way, lots were drawn three times and three times the name of Hazrat Yunus (peace be upon him) came out. So he were thrown into the sea, at which time a big fish swallowed them, then he realized that it was not proper for him to leave the town without waiting for Allah’s order. So he started asking for forgiveness in the belly of the fish and said: “My Lord! There is no god but You, You are pure. Indeed, I have wronged myself.” Allah accepted and the fish dropped him on the bank of the river. When he recovered, he went to his people by Allah’s command. The people were very happy to see him and accepted Islam at his hand.

Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Nuh and the prophets after him. And we revealed to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Yaqoob, the Descendants, Esa, Ayub, Yunus, Haroon, and Sulaiman, and to Dawood We gave the book [of Psalms].

Surah Nisaa: - 163

 

And Ismail and Elisha and Yunus and Lot – and all [of them] We preferred over the worlds.

Surah Anaam: - 86

 

Then has there not been a [single] city that believed so its faith benefited it except the people of Yunus? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in worldly life and gave them enjoyment for a time.

Surah Yunus: - 98

 

And [mention] the man of the fish, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darkness’s, “There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.”

Surah Anbiya: - 87

 

And indeed, Yunus was among the messengers.
