HARUT AND MARUT: -
In ancient times, magic became very common among the Jews
living in the city of Babylon, they used to show strange miracles through
magic, and even some people started claiming prophethood by the power of magic.
Allah Almighty sent two angels named Harut and Marut to the city of Babylon to
inform people about the status and reality of magic. Therefore, people used to
learn magic from them in order to earn money and harm others, instead of
getting a lesson, Although the both angels used to tell them before teaching
magic, that we have been sent to test you, so do not do illegal and forbidden
things through magic it is feared that you will fall into disbelief, but these
people did not believe and learned magic from them and fell into disbelief and
polytheism and ruined their world and the hereafter.
Quranic Ayah Related to Article: -
And they followed
[instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Suleiman. It was not
Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and
that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the
two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, “We are a trial, so do not
disbelieve [by practicing magic].” And [yet] they learn from them that by which
they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone
through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them
and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that
whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And
wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew.
