BATTLE OF TRENCH:-

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah peace be upon him) ordered the Jews to leave Madinah because of their misbehavior and conspiracies, so they settled in Khyber and Wadi al-Qura, but even after reaching there, their enmity and enmity did not cool down. They  sent a delegation of 20 chieftains of Banunazir to Quraysh Makkah to wipe out the Muslims. and incited them to compete and fight with the Messenger of Allah, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). Kinana bin Rabi prepared Banu Ghitfan to fight against the Muslims by promising to give them half of the produce of the land and gardens of Khyber. In this way, Abu Sufyan, from the alliance of Quraysh of Makkah and Banu Salim, Banu Saad, etc., took an army of 10,000 and left for Madinah to exterminate the Muslims.

 

DEFENSE STRATEGY OF MADINAH:-

In Shawwal 5 AH, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah peace be upon him) was informed that the Quraysh and the Jews wanted to unite and attack Madinah and wipe out the existence of Muslims forever. He expressed his intention to engage in a defensive war, on this occasion, Salman Farsi suggested digging a trench to avoid cavalry attacks. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) liked this opinion and ordered to dig a trench in the northern plain and open part of Madinah for protection from the enemy, and he himself marked and distributed ten yards of land to each of the ten Companions. They were busy digging a trench that day when a hard rock came. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah peace be upon him) Calling the name of Allah, he hit three hoes on it, which caused the rock to crumble. He gave the good news of the victory of the country of Syria, Iran, and Yemen, so that three thousand companions in six days in about three kilometers, five yard wide and five yards deep trench was dug and prepared.

 

SACRIFICE OF THE COMPANIONS IN DIGGING THE TRENCH:-

The Companions performed the task of digging the trench with all courage and determination despite the severe cold, lack of service, and starvation. Hazrat Abu Talha (Radi Allahu Anhu) opened his stomach due to hunger and showed a stone tied to it. Seeing this, the Messenger of Allah ) may Allah peace be upon him(removed the cloth from his stomach, and the companions saw that two stones were tied on it. One day, the Messenger of Allah, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), saw the Companions digging a trench early in the morning in a state of extreme cold and hunger, and prayed:  “O Allah! The real life is the life of the hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the emigrants.” Hearing this, the Companions began to say in their passionate love: “ We pledged allegiance to the hand of Muhammad (peace be upon him) until we die.” When the Companions encountered an obstacle during the trench, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would pour his saliva into the water and pray to Allah and sprinkle the water, then the rock would become soft like sand. Therefore, before the arrival of the enemy, the people of Madinah took care of their security.

 

THE INTENSITY OF THE SIEGE IN THE BATTLE OF TRENCH:-

A united army of 10,000 under the leadership of Abu Sufyan reached Madinah. The polytheists were surprised to see the trench dug to protect the city. Abu Sufyan had besieged Medina. There was an agreement between the Banu Qurayzah and the Muslims, so they did not participate in the war.Hayy bin Akhtab, the chief of Banu Nazir, after great effort and effort, lured Ka’b bin Asad, the chief of Banu Qurayza, to make bad promises to the Muslims and joined him. The Muslims were greatly shocked by this bad position, on the other hand, the hypocrites were leaving the field by playing tricks and making excuses against the Muslims.In this way, due to the intensity and severity of the siege, the Muslims came between the internal and external attacks, and the Prophet( may Allah peace be upon him) intended to make peace by giving Banu Ghitfan one-third of the produce of Madinah and separating from Abu Sufyan’s army. But the brave companions like Hazrat Saad bin Mu’adh and Saad bin Ubada said: - “O Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace! We will never give them our wealth except swords, let them do what they want, we are ready for competition”.

 

SACRIFICE OF THE COMPANIONS IN BATTLE OF KHANDAQ/TRENCH:-

In Ghazwa Khandaq, the polytheists had besieged Madinah with an army of ten thousand. After two weeks of shooting and throwing stones from both sides, the Quraish gathered all the forces and planned to attack. Coincidentally, the width of the trench was less at one point, so the famous Arab warrior Amr bin Abdiwud and his companions crossed the trench with the heels of their horses and challenged the Muslims to a contest three times. So Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu Anhu) went ahead to fight, for a while both of them showed their essence, finally Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu Anhu) defeated him. It was a very hard day of attack, spears and stones were raining from the infidels and polytheists. So, after a month long siege, the unseen help of Allah came and such a cold and strong wind blew that their tents were uprooted, the armies were in chaos, they were forced to flee due to the harshness of the weather and lack of food.
