MIGRATION OF MUSLIMS TO ABYSSINIA: -
When the infidels and polytheists started harassing the Muslims,
the Messenger of Allah (May Allah Peace and Blessing Upon Him) gave permission
to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to go to the country of Abyssinia
for the protection of their lives and faith. The king there does not oppress
anyone, it is a good country. After that, a small group of companions left for
Abyssinia in the month of Rajab 5 of the Prophet. Among them were
Caliph Rashid Hazrat Uthman Ghani (RA) and his wife Hazrat
Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was also there. The
infidels heard the news of their migration and chased them, but before the
infidels arrived, the boats had already left the port of Jeddah.
After reaching Abyssinia, Muslims were living peacefully. After him, other
people migrated, whose number was more than a hundred, and among them Hazrat
Jafar Tayyar (RA), the cousin of the Holy Prophet, (May Allah bless him
and grant him peace). These people migrated not only to protect their bodies
and souls, but actually to save their religion and faith and to worship Allah
with satisfaction.
AN APPEAL TO INFIDELS IN THE COURT OF NAJASHI: -
When the Quraysh saw that the Companions of the Prophet (may
Allah be pleased with them) had gone to Abyssinia and were living in peace and
security, they consulted and sent Amr bin Al-Aas and Abdullah
bin Abi Rabi’ah to the king of Abyssinia with many gifts. The king
there was a Christian. Both of them went there and presented gifts and said
that some of our people have abandoned their native religion and adopted a new
religion and fled to your country, so return them to us. The king called the Muslims
and inquired about the situation. On behalf of the Muslims, Hazrat Jafar
(RA) went forward and said: “O king! We were suffering from
ignorance and misguidance. We worshiped idols, ate dead bodies, and the
stronger among us oppressed the weaker. We were in such a situation that Allah
Almighty sent a Messenger whose truth, trustworthiness and purity we already
knew. He commanded us to worship one Allah, to pray, to fast and to pay Zakat,
and to be kind to our neighbours, and forbade us from cruelty, bloodshed, and
other bad things. We believed in these things. Our nation became angry at this
and began to hurt us. So we have come to your country”. Then Hazrat
Jafar (RA) recited a few verses of Surah Maryam. It had
such an effect on the king that tears flowed from his eyes until his beard
became wet and the king sent the disbelieving Quraish out of the court saying
that I will never hand over these people to you.
THE LAST ATTEMPT OF THE INFIDELS OF MAKKAH AT THE COURT OF NAJASHI: -
When the infidel Quraysh left the court of King
Najashi, having failed in their attempt, Amr ibn al-Aas said that
tomorrow I will say something to the king, due to which he will completely
destroy these Muslims. The next day, Amr bin Al-Aas came to
Najashi and said that these people say very harsh things about Jesus. The
Najashi king was a Christian. He called the Companions and asked: What do you
people say about Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him)? Hazrat Ja’far (RA)
said: “We say what our Prophet (PBUH) said that Hazrat Isa (AS) was the
servant of Allah and His Messenger. And Allah had a special spirit and a
special word”. Najashi picked up a straw from the ground and said: ”By Allah what the Muslims said! Yes, Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) was not more
than a straw”. And he said to the Muslims that you live in peace, he
does not like to persecute you even by taking a mountain of gold, and he
ordered to return all the gifts and gifts of the disbelieving Quraish and said
that Allah has given me government and empire without bribery. Therefore I will
never hand over these people by taking a bribe from you. The court ended. The
Muslims returned happily and the delegation of Quraysh returned with
humiliation.
